Indian Idol 3 - Gala Round: Who will get eliminated on August 4th?

Two weeks, two polls, two straight picks by the smart people who vote here. Let's see if everyone can get it right for the third time in a row. If you'd like to explain your choice, leave us a comment.

Note that in our running poll on who will win, Abhishek Kumar is clearly at the bottom of the remaining contestants. On the other hand, the normally reliable and talented Deepali bombed spectacularly in the latest gala round.

Update: Online voters in India and the UK pick Abhishek, those in the US pick Prashant.

Ooooo...
Can't believe someone actually eliminated Amit Paul.

I think the first one to go will be
Puja, then Chang. He is cute and all, but "Woh Indian Idol waali baat nahin hai."

Sorry, if I disappoint any Chang fans.

Chang fans, trust me, I do like him to and I talk about Chang to my work colleagues. And why not, if they dragged me in "Sanjaya Controvery" with American Idol.

I believe this Deepali controvery will affect him too...

So, far all the elimiations have been of my least fav. contestants. I did feel bad when Smita was out. But I am looking for some entertainment on Friday night, not Ganga, Jamuna, Saraswati award aur phir talent ke liye SRGMP hain naa.

Parleen was one of my fav., but I just loast interest.

Must say though, if Abhishek will be out this early, I am going to be depressed. I do want to see him around till top 5.

"Those in the US are picking Prashant or Deepali."

That's because those of us in the U.S. (present company included) are naive and think that because Prashant hasn't been performing well, he'll be voted out. Too bad he's got a huge backing from the police force in India, as well as the Nepali community.

I like Prashant, but still - one can hope that we won't lose someone talented in favor of him.

Rupal, I have a feeling you might be right with Puja. Sania, yes indeed, whats the deal with Prashant? He started off well enough and got worse!

Someone please explain Malli's angle when he questioned Prashant about smoking.

What was he trying to get at, with smoking. Yes, yes, patta hai Cigarette smoking si injurious to health. But this is Indian Idol, koi commercial nahin that he needs to talk about the fine print.

I agree with you Sania, Prashant has a strong backing from the Nepali community.

Now that we are talking about Prashant, I find his voice quite melodious. Call me biased or Mujhe sur ki bahut pehchaan nahin hai, can someone explain how his performance is bad.

Prashant certainly has a sweet voice. But I think he's struggled to sing complex tunes in the last several shows. Its a sur problem - his voice quality is great.

I think Malli might have picked up some insider information from someone and chose to bash Prashant with it on air. I can't think of any other reason he'd bring it up.

Rumour has it that Prashant is indeed a smoker - picked it up in the police force - but didn't want to admit it on national television. Interesting, but a rumour nonetheless.

In any case, I agree with aspi, it's definitely a case of Prashant trying to sing songs that are too complex for a person without any training. I think the language thing might be proving to be a problem for him as well, because he's losing the feel of the song pretty easily - even for the simplest songs. And losing the feel can be a killer.

What do we think of Ankita? I personally think that she's come a long way as far as singing ability, but she's certainly not there yet. Her Suraj Hua Maddham bordered on farcical. When it comes to her, the judges are blind to a fault, so I expect her to stick around for a fair bit... but still, I think Parleen was better than her.

Sania, I glad you mentioned Ankita. Yes, I was totally not impressed with her "Suraj hua Maddham" and did agree with Alisha. True judges are blind when it comes to Ankita. And yes, she will stick around. I was hoping that her performance would grow on me. But sorry to say, it ain't happening.

I was kind of disappointed that she got the wild card entry, over padmanav. Not that I preferred him, but lesser of 2 evil.

Sania, agree with your comments on Ankita. But for some reason I like her quite a bit. She tries hard to surprise people and explore her range which like Malli would say "works for me". I find myself keeping my fingers crossed when she sings.

I don't think she's never been in the danger zone since her comeback. She has improved tremendously lately for sure. Before her elimination she was a bit of a joke. Now she's an Indian Idol B grader (equivalent to a SRGMP D grader).

Since Parleen who exuded so much charm has been out of the show, I've lost interest tremendously. I think the show has lost it's charm. I quite find the singers in there to be kind of childish and I think this is a bubbly teenager show still. Except for a few singers like Amit Paul, Prashant and Deepali and of course Parleen( whose voice I always liked ), the singers lack the matured singing( i think). Honestly speaking, I quite like Amit Paul and Deepali only of the whole lot. I've never watched SRGMP, the entire show, so I can't comment anything about it but of what I've watched on youtube, I think the singers there are much older unlike the typical 17-24 aged singers in II-3. So, it's quite possible that SRGMP singers have the quality that comes to them naturally with age, practise and experience.
But talking about II-3, Amit Paul is a singer with a difference. I hope he wins!

Since few weeks Prshant performance is not up to the mark bt we can inspire him to do gud...Anu Malik once said dat Prashant is a fabulous singer the only thing is dat he sld try hard to be the 3rd Indian Idol..Amit Paul is jus fantastic bt i think this week Puja Chaterjee sld go coz' her voice is lil' bot immature...

Ok. I changed my vote, after watching today's show. I think Abhishek will be out. His singing has gone from bad to worse. His choice of song was terrible. He shoudl have selected something that suited his voicd. Also, the theme of Folk songs did not help him.

Puja actually sang very well. Again she was lucky to get the folk music theme. Having said that, I am not a big fan of Puja's singing ...

I am glad Prashant's singing was appreciated by all the judges. I always enjoy his voice.

Unfortunately, Prashant is going to win - ONLY because how certain part of the Indian community have decided to vote, regardless of his singing ability. The best SINGER - Amit Paul - is going to come 2nd because of this nonsensical voting patterns - Anu Malik was right - Amit Paul is the righteous Indian Idol !!

...so the Drift poll is going to be wrong tonite - as PRashat is staying till the end - unfortunately...

Hi everyone,
I had been going through the conversation and I think for whatever reason everyone is biased for or against contenstants, because "Prashant is a policeman all nepalis and policemen are voting for him and he will be a Indian Idol because of that"! this is a ridiculus statement........
Why are we Indians always thinking about the "state" or the "region"?

All of the contenstants should be looked at as they are "INDIANS" and then give them all a fair chance. (Please don't say Chang is not a Indian, if he wasn't he wont be there).

Vote for whomsoever you like for their "singing and "singing" alone and nothing else.

For me, I want Amit Paul to win coz he has a wonderful voice.

I think Amit Paul should be the next Indian Idol.

I want to share an interesting titbit ...

Apparently, Amit Paul is half Nepali too,his mom is Nepali...

Now, if Prashant really is a smoker and he denied on National Televison ...

Boy, all I can say(again in my filmi style) is

Bacchke ke tu rahne re, (Malli se) bacchne ke tun rahena ...
