The music of Cash

It's not too hard to forgive the kya kool hai hum Hinglish that is generously smattered across the songs produced by Vishal and Shekhar - mostly because they are willing to try out new things while responding to the pressures of mass market Bollywood hits.

And on the new soundtrack for the movie Cash they definitely try very admirably. The result is six House and Trance tracks that all sound very different. This is not to say the CD is groundbreaking but its quite entertaining especially if you like any type of House. At least one song, I think, is fabulous.

Unfortunately for the CD, "Mindblowing Mahiya" has been used in heavy rotation to promote the movie. But the winner is Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal's sensuous hip-house track "Rehem Kare". V-S vary the tempo of their beats to create a deliciously layered song.

It's even got its own full-length video - an ill-conceived boy meets girl in dance club scenario that lets the song down badly. Which leads me to this - does the lead character always have to mouth the rap in a song? No! It looks cringe-worthy.

Now, V-S, can you occasionally lay down a non-straightened drum track and hit us with some Nu Skool?

Forget mouthing the rap, do they have to rap at all?! At least they saved themselves from the ultimate ignominy and didn't compete with Rehman on who can murder rap better.

I agree Aspi, Rehem Kare is fantastic.
Personally i think "I see you" is one of their underrated compositions. Loved all the tracks. Fresh and they make a very easy listen.

I See You was great. And "Subah Subah" made a big fan of Zubin Garg of me - he won't get such a cool song to sing in a long time.
