brb

Boy, the holidays are here and its time to unwind. So I'm going to take a breather and spend a lot of time interacting with friends and family. What'll happen to Aspi's Drift? Not much - the regularity of the posts will be choppy. I'll probably take the opportunity to post some non-TV stuff I've written.

I might post less frequently or not at all for days - we'll see if the Drift Memsaab keeps me in the house with this kind of time on my hands. I'll definitely try to catch the finals of JDJ and NB.

It won't last forever - I like writing too much and I enjoy the company of everyone who is gracious enough to stop by. So by the time the second week of January rolls by - I'll be fully charged and much more disciplined. Hope you won't mind this too much.

Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays Aspi and the drifters. Bumping into this site was one of the hilites for me for 2007.

Here's wishing that your posts for 2008 are as witty, exciting and biting bitchy as ever and bollywood/indian-tv is still wacky enough for us to comment on it endlessly.

btw, next season of american idol starts on Jan 15th and hope you will be blogging about it.

Rakhiben, when u said u r so happy that ur Aspi bhaiyya-bhabhi r coming to 'hosla hafzaayi' you, that u would dance dil 'khol' ke', I didnt realise u meant it literally....A wardrobe malfunction at this stage.....seems like a planned tamasha....Tut,tut...not good to be doing this with ur bhaiyya-bhabhi around!

anu g said...

Tania, u were supposed to be posting ur poem on Li champs. Who do u think will get selected (atleast u hope will be) in the wildcard round of lilchamps?

anu g said...

Saritha, I thought u would be taking over the Chote Ustaad , once VOI got over. i trust u r still in the US, tho Aspi and Sidekick arent, then why dont u post something. Its so disappointing to come to the drift and find no new entries at all.

Joules said...

Heard Soha Ali Khan and Siddharth (from Rang De Basanti) are dating. Now that is a cute couple.

Tania said...

Anu
Aspi will not be online till 22nd. I will send the writeup for the Wildcard by then.
Based on popularity factor, Barbie or Sagar might get selected. But I want Saahil to get in.

Flipping through the channels yesterday saw Mauli and Poonam singing "Baras Jaye Badal" on one of the daily soaps. They looked so funny together. Mauli was all into her moves while Poonam only wanted to concentrate on the singing.

Poonam looked a lot younger without the make-up, the straight hair or the colored contact lenses.

Saritha said...

anu,

Like Tania mentioned we have wait for Aspi to come back.

Joules,
Are they still making rounds of these daily soaps? It's infact is the easiest way to get noticed, these days.

On a diff note, read that bahu won the Jhalak title.I couldn't see the finals.Any updates on that?Anyone?

Joules said...

The only thing I heard was that Sandhya got all the praise from the judges and the audience. Infact, Urmila and Shiamak proclaimed that Sandhya was their winner. Prachi fans are really upset about it.

From the pics Sandhya looks a lot better too. Her body is lot more toned now. Prachi was her frumpy self.

Saritha said...

Looks like it was a re-run of Season1.Shipa,then judge, gave Shveta a standing ovation rt after the results were declared.None of the celebs this season came close to Shveta...still Sandhya worked really hard;her improvement was tremendous and proved to be a better dancer than Prachi.

On the brighter side,Deepak who lost the NB2 title, atlast won something.

Joules said...

anug, Atleast you can keep posting updates on our bollywood ke sitare. I always have fun reading those.

Joules said...

va va voom, Gauri Khan looks awesome.

leera said...

I saw the finale and must say it was entertaining. Especially since the lip syncing was justified.
Prachi was a shoe in to win purely on the basis of having more face time on tv in general.
However Sandhya Mridul was the reason i started watching this season. I have always loved her acting and she gave the show credibility by being a supreme dancer. The fact that she now has a bombshell dancing tag on top of her acting abilities means she can only go from strength to strength.

Saritha said...

Wow!Gauri looks Fab!!!She possibly had more bad hair days than any other celeb wife, but this one is k..k..k.. kool.

anu g said...

Ha, I am so glad to see some activity here. Aspi, I have done my good deed for the day:).
Joules, I thought no-one was visiting the drift, thats y no comments from me. Let me see if I can find something interesting.
I happened to see OSO again. I was not too impressed the first time. But this time, to my surprise I enjoyed it. I guess thats why they say one must never have expectations if u want to be happy and content in life:).
This time they showed a song in the end with all the behind-the-scenes people. Gauri Khan is indeed very smart looking. Maybe thats why SRK's wedding is still going strong.

anu g said...

Tania, am so glad that u also like Sahil. Megan was the only other who seemed to like him.I hope he is back. Barbie I think would be better-off acting. Her mom would also fit into the role of a star-mom very well.

anu g said...

Saritha,do u remember whose choreographer Deepak was in the earlier JDJ?
I read an interview with Prachi where they asked her if she wuld share her prize-money with Deepak if she won. She said 'No, I wont. He will be getting some prize directly from the producers'!!!!
Tut tut,not-at-all bahu-talk. When she won based on her bahu-image , she shuld have atleast been kind to him.

anu g said...

Joules I am glad u managed to see Mouli singing a song which was not 'maiyya maiyya':).

anu g said...

Ekta Kapoor says it was Bani who won!!!http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1140192

anu g said...

Joules, there have been rumours about Soha and Sidhharth even last year, but the Hyd press said they were untrue cos Siddharth was supposed to be happily married to a Telugu girl. (he is a Telugu guy who got the role in RDB cos Rakesh mehra;s wife is from Andhra Pradesh.).I had read an article where Soha said that they were just rumours.

Joules said...

I did'nt know he was married. I loved him in RDB. Wish he would do more hindi movies. It seems like he is very selective and a little eccentric (which may go with his being a good artist).

Joules said...

Anug, funny that you would talk about OSO. I started watching it yesterday. Saw the first half and am looking forward to seeing the second half today.

The Manoj Kumar scene really cracked me up. Deepika impressed me. I could'nt believe it was her first movie. She held herself pretty well in front of Shahrukh Khan and has an understated style of acting.

I dont think Shreyas Talpade has ever done a bad role. I even liked him in the dud Aggar. I only wish his wig looked a little more realistic. He should have grown his own hair for the role. Also when they aged (both Shreyas and Arjun) the makeup looked amateurish.

Now about the much hyped Dard-e-disco. I expected better choreography from Farha Khan. Actually the whole movie seems a little hurried by the director. You dont get the sense of love/perfection that she had for her first movie.

anu ji,

Aap ko Sanjeeda pasand hai yeh pata hai, lekin aap ko mujhse itni nafrat hain yeh nahi pata.Aap ko lagta hain ki hum Finals mein pahunch ne ke liye, main kudh apna tamasha banaungi.

Judgees aur Junta humare saath hai,
Parso Grand Finale ki raat hai,
Jeet ne ki humari chahat hai,
Aur Yeh karne ki hum mein himmat hai.

Tania said...

Hey Everyone
I did not watch the finale of JDJ when I came to know that Prachi won.I was mighty pissed off at the unfair wildcared winning with her Bahu image.
BTW there is a phrase in Bengali called "Ghomtar tolai khemta naach"
which means "ghunghat ke andar item dance" Thats what Bahu Prachi reminded me with her shiny leggings and as Aspi says writhing on the table.

leera said...

Wow Tania, thanks for that phrase. Absolutely encapsulates the double standards rife in the Indian media today.

This post reminds me of those blogs that just have 'open thread' day - I like.

In any case, just saw the JDJ2 finale - holy crap, was Akshay like stoned or something? And Katrina was just something else.. I get that not a lot of Bollywood actresses speak Hindi, but can't they start teaching them or something?

Still watching - but will post more

Saritha said...

anu,

Deepak was on NB last season not on JDJ.And that tidbit had me lol.I can't expect anything more than that from her.

Thanks to Leera,I watched the last part of Indian Telly Awards, where she was screaming, giggling and waving to the crowd like a 10 yr old.

On the other hand,it was interesting to see two gutsy women of tellydom-Smriti and Ekta throw darts at each other.Although everyone knew that things are not really hunky-dory between the ex-best friends, this time they've made their displeasure known. It was evident that they were still hurting.

Arre Wah rakhi ji, aap tho shaayari bhi kar leti hain.Agar us din ki ghatna genuinely mistake thee)or is it mistake tha? I am very bad at genders in Hindi grammer....let me continue in English, then Jejus kasam, maaf keejiye.
Best of luck for the finals.

After Aspi and Sidekick and other drifters, its now time for me to hibernate for a few days......Merry Xmas to all my friends here, and see u next week.I hope the the drift keeps active in the meanwhile.

anu g said...

Saritha, which couple did he choreograph for? I remember him vaguely.

Joules said...

anu, the couple that came second - Gauri and Yash.

But the choreographers for Hussein and Tina were out of this world. Can't remember their names.

When they had the choreographers competition they danced on 'hum dum suniyo re' and were so flexible and extremely imaginative.

Even the numbers Hu-Ti danced on were so creative, the one with blindfolds and then the one where they are tied to each other with ribbons. It also helped that Hussein was so likable.

Here is the youtube for the blindfold number

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfNSBTaiNuk

and here's the one for the ribbon dance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgM-rDfIajk&feature=related

Saritha said...

yep,

If I ignore Hussain's shiny suits for a while,he is quite likable and is totally in love with Tina. They look so good together.

"bahon ke darmiyaan'(the ribbon dance) was 'Beautiful' in every sense. You just have to see that.

The choreographer jodi was Harshad & Vittal.I guess across the three seasons, they were the best followed by Season 1's Varun-Rajeshwari's choreographer.

I once wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up-they have no holidays. Henry Youngman.

What a lovely quotation! I hope Aspi and drifter will have wonderful holiday! I am going to Las Vegas road trip for two weeks, Starting from Dallas. I hope to see your updates when I get back. Merry X'mas and Happy New Year!!

Hey everyone, I finally got back online and had a lot of fun reading the comments and following the links. anu g, I'm glad you were around to keep the Drift alive.

I have to say a week in Goa has totally made me slack: I missed the JDJ finale and will likely miss the NB finale due to a commitment. And I'm feeling bitchy only about Indian Airlines :)

But if anyone would like to post: the dukaan is open.

Priti said...

Hey Aspi, you sure must be having a blast! Nothing less than that can be expected in Goa.

We'll surely miss the posts, but what the heck - we'll go thru it cheerfully, waiting for the rejuvenated Aspi!

With all those awful temp files out of the way, it's good to be back on the drift! :-)

SkD said...

Hey Aspi!Have a rockin time in goa....mann who do u think will win NB3??Mrs n Mr Rakhi Vs Mrs n Mr Sanjida......i wud go for rakhi anyday!

Aspi said...

Thanks for the wishes everyone! The most visible person always wins. And thats Rakhi Sawant on NB3 so my money would be on her.

In any case, she and her partner are also far better dancers than Amir-Sanjeeda. Its not that A-S are bad - they have the moves and the likeability, but their presence on stage is next to nothing - always a minus.

Tania said...

Hey Aspi,
looks like you are having a rocking time in Goa.
I will send you the titbits of the wildcard round for SRGMP.
Happy holidays everyone.

Joules said...

I would have liked Rakhi and A to win too. But Aamir and Sanjeeda won
