Sorry been away for a bit. Thanks for the reminder Joules!

Megan, that Akshay Kumar link is pure genius. For a minute I thought it was an ad for lifebuoy like the one that made Suresh Oberoi (Vivek's father) famous.

I particularly like the section where Akshay douses himself with talcum powder after the bath, then piles on the deo and does a flip over a couch.

Aspi said...

Re: Parmeshwar Godrej: Holy Shitto!

The caption says "Powerful Presence". For a Raj Kumar Kohli film, yes.

m said...

i can't choose any particular portion of the video as my favorite, every second of it is genius!

if i was a dude i would totally go buy myself blue speedos and start wearing them in shower as a tribute to the video..

Aspi said...

Indeed! Akshay is so cool that even a bath is an action-packed outing. How about that part where he dries his butt with a towel that has three women's backsides on it?

Is that the part where Twinkle went: "He is sooo cool! It's him or no one else" and Dimple probably went: "If my daughter marries that guy, how will I explain this dance to all my friends?"

leera said...

Oh my god that akshay video is hilarious with a capital H. All the elements of the 80's make an appearanace - mullet check, adidas check, bruce lee poster check, its my life playing with hella bad break dance moves double check!

On a fugly note, I found Harman looking gay as hell on the bollywoodfashionpolice website. Well at least now he can be 'gareebon ka Lance Bass'

Yoo, ritha. Long time.

Thanks for the reco. I will definitely check it out. In the meantime I've been listening to Money Hai to Honey Hai and I am surprised by how cool that soundtrack is.

Its game changingly good - but alas no one will take it seriously.

So I feel obligated to review it next.

That Akshay video reminds me to the late 80s and early 90s movies where the first scene of the hero or heroine had to be a bath scene with bubbles. Remember Kajol in DDLJ.

So Aspi, who is leading the JJWS poll? I guess it will sort of let us know who is going to be third:).

Aspi said...

anu g, once you vote you should be able to see the other votes for each person in terms of percentage.

Abhijit leads this with just over 40% for now. There were 202 votes as of today (although I should say for our SRGMP polls thousands would find us and vote)

Gang, I was thinking of doing a lame fashion post.

Can anyone help by telling me what those quarter length women's jackets are called? You know the ones which you don't button, which are long sleeved but only about cover your rib cage or less?

I'm doing a terrible job describing it but hopefully you'll know what I'm talking about.

j said...

Is this what you mean

They are called cropped jackets.

Aspi said...

j, thanks. I did some more looks up last night. Actually I was referring to this, although these have buttons. But just tells you how bad my powers of recall are.

girlie girl said...

Aspi, I believe they're still called Cropped Jacket/sweater...THey just have different lenghths and sizes but the name is that...

Aspi said...

Ah ok. The Drift Memsaab will be impressed when I no longer refer to her clothes as "that thing on top"

I think the pic Aspi sent those are refered to as shrugs. They are basically coverall (to cover you arms and shoulders) when wearing spagethi or tube tops.

Kanan said...

whoa whoa WHOA @ Akki's lifebouy ad-like clip. man! that's just too much entertainment.

Thanks, m, for the link.

Aspi said...

gg, the way I see it: YRF have to be in crisis management mode. They need 3 big hits a year to stay on top. And they need 2 buzz worthy movies to maintain thought leadership.

They've been under-delivering on since last year.

So Aditya needs to do something dramatic. You know there is a post in there somewhere - I just need to find it.

j said...

I actually like the idea of a Rakhi or Mallika doing a YRF movie. I am so tired of seeing Rani (or a preity or Kareena) doing similar roles in YRF movies. Would be a nice change to see someone else.

Get Genelia or Katrina in there. I prefer freshness more than the same ol' ghissa-pita actresses.

girlie girl said...

I agree on the Kat or Genelia idea...they've proven themselves at this point...At least Genelia has, as far as Katrina goes, the lady who dubs her voice has proven herself!! :D

but then again, i think once you go the YRF way, you dont tend to do anything else. I mean look at Rani, or Kajol or even Saif...i mean, come on!! Surprise me!!

WHat would be hillarious is if the movie with Rakhi makes more money than Tashan and TPTM combined!! I mean that's not very hard to do considering those 2 movies made next to nothing!!

Pitu said...

lol ya true. Actually I'd be happy if the movie did rly well for the simple reason that I like Rakhi and I'd love for her to able to thumb her nose at all the brats (Kajol etc) who think she is a nobody. Sweet revenge...

Tanny said...

Mallika Sherawat comes on SRGMP and sits with the audience instead of the judges. Apparently all the judges including asha ji were not too happy to have her in the show and other source says that she herself chose to sit with the aam janta instead of the 'budhdha' judges :))

Just read the LoC SRGMP thing- whatev!! Indians are given zero opportunity to perform in Pakistan (even our movies aren't shown there) and here our Mahesh Bhatts and reality show ppl are always bending over backwards to accommodate them any which way. Meanwhile, the Pakistanis take potshots at Indians in the media. And the funny thing is, except for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, I don't even know of any Pakistani who truly deserves these breaks. Meera anyone?? Am I the only one who finds all this annoying? Also, I was at the Rockstars concert 2 yrs ago and there was a sizeable Pakistani crowd. I actually heard some ladies making nasty remarks like 'Oh, that Esha Deol, she isn't even fair, such a flared nose she has.. Lahore girls are sooo much prettier blah blah. Yeah, ok, we aren't good enuff for you, then why are you here?

Yeah, even in a Cavalli dress Katrina is not looking good. Perhaps a Mr. Khan is dragging her down.

Pitu said...

You know wot I think? I think she had been crying. Coz she is all sulky, and her face looks scrubbed of makeup. Also, her eyes are a bit puffy. It's all very 'It's my party and I'll cry if I want to'.

girlie girl said...

that man just ruins everything he touches!! it seriously looks like he's totally abusive towards her just from looking at her arms!! DAMN!!

Pitu said...

I know nothing about psychology but I think he is a split personality or something. He is so nasty but in 'Dus Ka Dum' he is so charming!!

j said...

I dont think those are marks on her arms. She is got similar marks on her face. Think it could be a shadow from window blinds or something.

This picture could have been taken later in the evening. She looks a little drunk.

Aspi said...

Pitu, more than a split personality Salman seems like a classic case of someone who has major anger management issues.

Successful people who have that problem have worked out a way to survive it socially. In Salman's case, I think he does it by trying hard to charm everyone's pants off - hence the back slapping yaargiri.

I agree he is very entertaining and likeable on Dus Ka Dum.

m said...

i could have got some scoop but i don't think my "source" was at the party..

it is obvious something really went down at the party that wasn't pleasant..everyone looks HORRIBLE/drunk/angry whatever! EWW none of them look remotely good..i see better looking/dressed people in my city..

m said...

and salman IS abusive to Katrina..apparently he has these fits and gets really violent..i won't be surprised ONE BIT.. he just looks like a two faced psycho

girlie girl said...

o wow. roid rage? that sounds like a bad sci-fi flick :-) slasher roids crate havoc in nice burb! lol i must look this stuff up. btw hrithik credits sallu with giving him diet/exercise tips. so wud this mean he has done the same stuff too. altho he seems way nice and adorable.

girlie girl said...

Even in Maine Pyaar Kiya, he wasnt big...infact, i cant believe i'm saying this, but he looked a little taller just because he was skinny and not stubby like looks now...not to mention he had real hair back the which is a whole new topic!!

Kanan said...

You're right, J. It looks like that picture of Kat is taken from a car window or some other kind of window with stuff on it. You can see the shadow marks on her arms and face, which are not there 4 pictures later in the slide show. I don't think she's wearing the makeup properly. Plus she's sweating and looks like she just ran to the party place from somewhere. And she surely doesn't look happy for a birthday girl, may be it's Salman's hair. :P

As of Sallu miyan, I think he's very possessive about his girls and very emotional too so he does wrong things out of emotions and then realizes what he did later on. Result: so many messed up relationships. I hate dissing that guy though. I adore him. :D

j said...

Kanan, I heard she showed up at the party from a shoot. So maybe the reason why she looked to tired.

The who's who of the industry showed up for the party. From Deepika to Karishma, Gauri-SRK to Amir. So seems like Salman atleast threw a big bash for his girl.

No wonder Abhijeet Sawant won Indian Idol, back when there was only one show and the masses were actually voting :D The man had the humility to walk up after winning and say he wasn't the best singer on Indian Idol, he just lucked out.

(Heh, do I make my allegiance clear enough? :)

Pitu said...

svr, I agree completely. Abhijeet is just adorable while Rahul's smug face turns me off. And good luck with only singing for himself! Pitu said...

Mind Rush, I read somewhr that Sallu and SRK kad been fighting all night and Gauri repeatedly asked SRK to leave. As a parting shot, SRK said something about Ash. I highly doubt anyone will print it coz it's an invitation for Sallu to come ransack the paper's office. My guess would be that it's regarding the original reason why Sallu-SRK became enemies- the big fight that happened on Chalte Chalte sets resulting in Ash's firing and Rani's hiring. But who knows. Why anyone even tolerates a gf beating, pedestrian killing, chinkara poaching man is beyond me.

Very saddened by Ishmeet's death.

I did'nt watch Star Voice of India but heard about it and him from all my relatives back home specially since one of the finalist was from my home state of
UP.

I kept a close eye on him in JJWS, firstly because he was one of the voices I had'nt heard and secondly because I was amazed by his even keel demeanor under pressure. Here was a young man who sang beautifully and was always poised and took the judges comments in stride.

Rest in peace, Ishmeet. You will always be remembered. May God give his family the strength to deal with this loss.

girlie girl, awesome link. One of these days someone in the US will go "indian" and not feel obligated to put on a turban.

Agree about Ishmeet - he was the one with the most poise and grace among all the contestants.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but anyone can't swim will refuse to go into the deep end. Also, one article had said that he drowned in the deep end and another said that he dived into the shallow and hit his head. Um , I'm suspicious.

Is this for real? I am given to believe it is Vishal's blog. There's exactly 2 posts there, but given the level of detail in the description of Tashan's music (April 2008 archive), I'm kind of thinking it's not a hoax.

I've read that before - sounds like Vishal for sure. He hangs out a bit at vsforums as well.

Oh, that's awesome! I agree, it definitely sounds like his voice, and his love for each composition is evident -- but why on earth isn't it more visible/hyped?? Everyone seems to know that Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan blog, even though they're writing mostly content-free or marketing posts. Here's this guy telling us the thinking that went behind each piece, and the media doesn't seem to care.

Or was I just under a rock? (I was, April was a crazy month for me.)

mom was telling me that there are a lot of suspicions about Ishmeet's mysterious death (R.I.P)

he has had threats on his life too etc...

svr, I had posted about it here a while back when he wrote about Tashan music. Very insightful.

indiafm always hilites blogs when a new interesting entry comes up. The problem is a lot of bollywoodians have a blog now. Kunal Kohli, RGV, Shekhar Kapoor etc.. so it gets lost in the clutter.

Amir has been blogging for a long time. It took a while before his became more mainstream.

Bollywood blog traffic is virtually directly related to a person's popularity. People behind the scenes are less popular if you consider the entire Bollywood mass.

Most people know Aamir and Amitabh very well, a lot know AR, some know SEL, very few know Vishal Shekhar. I've tried this on just about every fringe and mainstream Bollywood fan I've come across.

I can attest to that. I would never visit a music composer's blog (unless it's Rahman) because I find discussions on music and compositions extremely boring. I'd rather read about a star or a director's experiences. And even there, there's a hierarchy. Aamir, sure. Kunal Kohli? I'd probably visit just to ask for my $15 back after that debacle called Fanaa :-p

Cool black and white, behind the scenes photos from the making of K3G.

j, oops -- I wasn't reading the comments a while back, I think. Right, makes sense about the clutter.

Aspi, wow, that's really surprising to me! I kind of assumed everyone would have heard of SEL after they exploded on the scene with DCH. And I kind of assumed the same would have happened to V-S after OSO. (Though it's true that they turned up on my radar first because of SRGMP, and their reasonable behaviour on it -- and then I listened to OSO.)

After skimming through Karan Johar's blog, I'm curious if he and Bhansali are friends :D He seems to be confessing there in an angsty post that he too was a tiny-little-bit happy Saawariya failed and he's awfully guilty about it!
