For anyone new here, welcome the the Drift. Here is how Linkology works: if you find anything funny, touching, entertaining or just plain worth sharing, leave us a link in the comments section with your take on it. lol, there are no bigger bunch of hypocrites than the Bacchans including the pretentious aishwarya..she always looks so smug as if she has unraveled life’s greatest mystery ..:-d

The more I read about stuff the more I realize just how much under a microscope the Bachchans are. I recently watched Abhishek being interviewed by NDTV where he got asked that question again: "When will you have kids". Gracious answer notwithstanding, he looked like he'd much rather be pulling teeth. And I was right there with him.

But this whole "marriage hasn't changed me" thing is a little defensive. I hope marriage changes people. In fact, I hope every year of your life changes you.

I think the kid question is common for celebrities. I always think of the cycles that hollywood actors go through in tabloid journalism:

1) Are they just friends or dating each other?
2) If just friends who else are they dating?
3) If dating then when are they breaking up?
4) If not breaking up when are they getting married?
5) If married when are they having a kid?
6) If they are not having a kid when are they divorcing?

Aish is unique that she has stayed in a similar limelight as she was before getting married. Not only her the press has access to her fil, mil and hubby. Karisma, Raveena, Madhuri all left the scene after marriage.

Also I think the bachchan household does use the bachchan brand to their advantage. For eg: Abhi could just say I am here promoting Drona and that is all I am going to talk about.

That list is funny! There is also another one these days.

If dating, aren't you pissed that his ex-gf is still messaging him?

Yes, well played and all that. But sheesh, its about time Sourav, Dravid and Laxman hung up their somewhat tattered gloves. Its the era of the impact player - not the consistent dibbly dobblys.

Anonymous said...

rightly said aspi..but one can't help but to feel sad especially those who have sat through spineless Indian perfs through the 80s talking about one ancient 83' match..
and for a generation of young bengalis starved of heroes, saurav meant a extralarge dose of heroism.

and once dravid, laxman and sachin retires, its the end of cricket as we knew it..

So how come no talk of SRGMP this week? It definitely reached a new low when they got all the male contestants to criticize Debojit.

Bad week - its coming up soon!

Pitu, tremendous link!

Koena Mitra had a face job gone wrong? Holy Hannah!

j said...

How come hollywood stars always want to work with Aish or SRK never Emraan Hashmi or Celina Jaitley.

http://ia.rediff.com/movies/2008/oct/13look.htm

Kanan said...

j, I'd love to see Michelle dance to the tunes of "chhaiya chhaiya" with SRK. ;) lol

As to your question, I think because they're not famous yet.. and those non-Bollywood folks only know the famous ppl so it's kinna sad.

Aspi said...

Michelle is one of my favorite actresses! If SRK knows whats good for him, he'll read that bit and beg her to work with him.

On the other hand, if I ever made a movie, I'd totally cast Celina Jaitley and in particularly sad moments have her show up and play a violin hoisted on the shoulders of a couple of Thai guys (an iconic moment from one of the greatest films of our times - Janasheen)

Aspi said...

And I'm not kidding here. I love that song. Whatever happened to Gauri Bapat? (She was from Vadodara too!)

1st look at Dostana!

j said...

That was my point. If I want to seem like I know a lot about the indian industry (she is obviously trying to sell her latest movie to the Indian audience) I would say "I would love to do a comedy with Paresh Rawal and Priyadarshan" instead of throwing the same ghisa-pita names.

Yeah, that violin scene in Jaannasheen is a classic. Aspi, you should do a post on the worst of Hindi cinema of such classic scenes.

Boom, Jaannasheen, Tom Dick and Harry and maybe Drona fall in that list.

j, I think that's a great idea. I should definitely do one on Janasheen. Sadly, I have watched none of the others - but I MUST!

My apology to the Bachchan women:

I have been a vocal critic of Aish's style sense and her homey values but lately watching the in your face diva brigade (Karisma, Kareena, Urmila) I am starting to like Ash's authenticity and her confidence in doing what she things is right, critics be damned.

I also saw the senior lady Bachchan on Koffee with Karan with none other than Hema Malini. While Hema was so reserved and boring (and her accent is really grating), Jaya was a breath of fresh air - she was open and straight forward. And her interaction with Shweta was funny at times. An old episode but definitely had me hooked.

Kanan said...

j, I agree with you. In that interview both the Bachchan women look so classy. I really liked how the mom and daughter know each other so well. As for Hema, I think she's cool just that she isn't that great at talking in English so that works against her.

Btw, speaking of Bachchans, anyone has an online link to magazine photo shoot that Shweta Bachchan did? Apparently, her one and only? I'm guessing. There's about 8-10 photos and she looks awesome in each and everyone of the them. The outfits are skirts/jackets/shirts sort of things. I've been having hard time finding the magazine name/photos. Anyone?
