Hum Tum Aur Ghost: The V Word

The title song for the Arshad Warsi 'I see dead people' comedy Hum Tum Aur Ghost - is the first Bollywood song that has the word 'vagina' in it. But more on that in a bit.

The album, composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, is full of - you know - those masti type songs.

This particular song is engineered to be a club hit and because its a title song, its supposed to tell us something about the movie. It tells us this: ghosts aren't what you think they are. In fact, they are stylish, awesome and can teach you valuable lessons in life.

The considerable task of conveying all of this falls on the able shoulders of Javed Akhtar. Javedji strives manfully and delivers gems like: 'dikhaaya mar ke humne / hum mar ke dilwaale hain.' Yes, there's not much a lyricist can do in this situation except work hard for their money.

Once you swallow the conceit of this song, the skipping beat really gets to you. SEL break the song down with dhols for the chorus. They do this quite a lot these days - but it does sound good.

There's a bit of a chorus that starts off the song. Vishal Dadlani sings the first two lines. Then Shankar Mahadevan shows up and sings 'mere vagina hai'! Javedji, what happened? That's just bad Hindi unless the character really has multiple privacies.

But its a step in the right direction. Female body parts need to be discussed in Hindi songs in ways that do not demean or trivilize them. And if you have one, why not declare it with pride. In the video, this distinction falls on Arshad Warsi - looking sexy with his gruff good looks packaged in snappy threads.

Ok, well maybe it just sounds like vagina in the song.

By the way director Kabeer Kaushik, watched Ghost Town have we?

OMG! LOL on this term: " multiple privacies".
Surely our auditory system and neurons are playing tricks on us. Javed sahib would NOT write the V word in trivial ways.

This means, Drift sir, that you heard what you wanted to hear. A classic case of projection! But a funny one at that.

I realised what a true loser Shankar is after watching music ka maha muqabla. After giving a whole series of lackluster performances (hardly any by his singers, and most done by himself -- in poor team spirit) he acted like a total desparado, just craving to win the money at any cost. Total loser. Shankar's lost all my respect.

But they were all in it for the money and exposure, no??
The one I really lost respect was Himesh. But wait! I lost that for him some years ago...

musical, you are correct! Those are the right lyrics. Well, there was no other good way to enjoy the song :)

Rockerchick and Anon, I was completely taken aback by how those guys put the good will everyone had for them on the line to win that competition. How much do these guys get paid?

Just read that the new judges for Indian Idol 5 will be Anu Malik, Salim Merchant and Sunidhi Chauhan.

I'm actually a bit puzzled by Sunidhi Chauhan's behaviour from the promo clips I've seen. She comes across as quite agressive, but that's what fame does to you. They shouldn't forget, that they all started somewhere and they are where they are cos the public deems it to be so.

Sunidhi is a headstrong person.

I can't wait to see that show. Wish Javedji had been in the mix too.
