Indian Idol 3 - A guide to the judges

Here is a key to what the three judges on Indian Idol 3 mean when they say certain things:

Alisha Chinai

  • "Wow!" = Wow!

  • "You are a gem of Indian Idol!" = I really like you. Personally.

  • "Good", "Accha tha" = You're f**kt!

Udit Narayan

  • "Kya lachak hai" = Udit khush hua

  • "Sur kuchh unees-bees ho gaye" = Your singing sucked

  • "Lekin..." = I'm not completely impressed

  • "Good luck!" = You're f**kt!

Javed Akhtar

  • "Dekhiye..." = You're f**kt!

  • "Tumhare ucchar theek nahi the" = I know a lot about Hindi and Urdu

  • "Tum sur se thode hile" = I have no idea what I'm talking about

  • "Very good performance" = I have no idea what I'm talking about

Is it just me or do the contestants seems totally sub-par. Terrible sense of sur, no laya, forgetting lyrics and their voices sound BAD! Compared to some of the other shows with singers SRGM and Fame Gurukul, IA sucks...! How can the judges say "you sang that better than me" with a straight face??

The bad ones really bleat, don't they? I have to agree - outside of Emon I wouldn't give a song to anyone if I was Kalyanji. Or Anandji.

I am outing myslef here as one of the (maybe the only) fan of Javed Akhtar. His heart is in the right place. I like that he once spoke up against a sexist statement made by Malik, and also recently highlighted the issue of bias due to physical appearance.

As a friend once said to me: "He can spout philosophy about a shoelace". Besides, lets face it, he was running aroung giving piano round slips to any girl who sang in a halfway decent voice.
